Anesthesiology

Patient given Anesthesia

BHPL provides all types of anesthesia service when necessary for surgical procedures or pain management. There are four main types of anesthesia.

  • Local: numbs one small area of the body. You stay awake and alert. Example a finger, toe or for small cut wounds.
  • Conscious or intravenous (IV) sedation: uses a mild sedative to relax you and pain medicine to relieve pain. You stay awake or sleep for a short period of time while a local anesthetic is being administered and may not remember the procedure afterwards.
  • Regional anesthesia: blocks pain in an area of the body, such an arm or leg. Epidural anesthesia, which is sometimes used during normal childbirth. Spinal anesthesia which is used commonly for birth by Cesarean Section and numbs half of the body.
  • General anesthesia: affects your whole body. You go to sleep and feel nothing. You have no memory of the procedure afterwards and pain is controlled throughout and after.

BHPL is capable of providing all necessary monitoring modalities while under anesthesia ensuring a safe experience for our patients. Our experience staff provides excellent service in emergency and planned surgical cases provided by both Anesthesiologist and CRNA’s.
